Location:
The Agona District is bordered on the east by the Awutu-Senya District; on the west by the Asikum-Odeben-Brakwa district ;on the North ?East by the Akim west district , on the north east by the Brim South District and to the south by Gomoa District

Size:
The district covers about 540sq.km

District capital:
Agona swedru

Topography:
The area has an undulating topography which slopes from north to south .it has diversified relief pattern with an average height of between 75m-150m and a peak of 350m above sea level

Soil and land uses:
The soil of the district are mainly forest ochrosol and ideal for cultivation of forest crops and commercial tree crop such as cocoa, citrus and oil palm

Climate:
Temperature: Mid temperature ranges between 29.4c and 33.8c
Rainfall: Bi-modal system of rainfall with maxima occurring in may/June and September /October.
Annual total rainfall ranges between 1000mm-1400mm.
Drier period: December-March-August

Vegetation:
Semi deciduous forest zone. Tree species such mahogany, sapele and wawa are very common.

Population -160,000(11.7% or the total population in the central region)

Water supply:

The district is adequately served by an elaborate water supply system from kwanyarko water Headworks.this is supplemented by dugout, hand drugwell, boreholes and streams making portable water available to 73%of the population

Road network:

The large volume of trade and other economic activities in the district have made transportation very efficient and movement to and from the district is possible at least twenty (20) hours a day.

Most of the zonal centers have postal services. Telephone facilities such as internet caf? are also available, especially at swedru.

Key economic and service activities

Agriculture: it engages at least 62% of the entire population .The major food crops cultivated are cassava, maize, plantain, yam and assorted vegetables.cocoa, coconut, sugar cane, oil palm constitute the main cash crops cultivated.

Manufacturing: it engages about 15% of the working population .the sector is dominated by small scale agro-processing ventures such as cassava processing, oil palm extraction and production /distillation of gin and other intermediate agriculture produce.

Trade and commerce: The most dominant market centers are Swedru and Nsuansa accounting for about 70%of the volume of trade

Tourism

Tourism potentials in the district include the Dwarfs Sanctuary at Bobikuma, the nine channels of the Ayensu River at Mankrong and the nemerious and colourful festival such as the annual Akwanbo festival

The district assembly will facilitate negotiation for acquisition of the land, proper tenancy arrangements and documentation mutually beneficial to land owners and the investor
Exemptions from payment of property and other local taxes for period ranging from 3-5years depending on the priority of the sector and the scale of investment capital
Availability of option for 100% direct ownership, joint venture with private investors or the district Assembly
The district assembly will facilitate access to electricity, telecommunication and water supply to project sites
The District through Cedecom will provide investment advice, linkage to financial institutions, preparation of Business plans and marketing service
