Location
The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district is bounded on the north by the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district, on the west by the Assin District, on the south by the Mfantsiman district and on the east by the Gomoa district

Size
Land area: 541.3sq km.
Population of land area to region 1:18.15

Physical Features

Topography
The area is undulating and range between 50 metres and 150 metres above sea level.
The main highlands in the area are a ridge located in the north-western corner of the district which rises to about 180 meters

Climate
The district lies within the moist-semi-equatorial region

Temperature
Main monthly temperatures range from 28oc in the coolest month (August) to about 30oc in the hottest months (March-April).
Rainfall
There is a double maxima rainfall with the peaks in May-June and September-October.
The earlier rains are the heaviest accounting for nearly half of the annual rainfall of 120 to 150cm.
Driest Period
December to February

Vegetation
Semi-deciduous forest vegetation with layered canopies have been cleared for cultivation, particularly cocoa and oil palm.
This type of vegetation now exists only in isolated areas and in groves.

Main Economic Activities

Farming is the main activity especially food crop cultivation.
Other economic activities are trading and manufacturing at the small scale level e.g:

  • Carving and bead making Kokoben, Onwane and Besease
  • Local soap manufacturing at Ochiso
  • Cassava processing (gari and chips_ at Entumbil, and Kokoben
  • Edible oil extraction at Onwane, Ochiso, Denkyira and Mando.

The two major markets in the district are at Essiam and Ajumako

Investment Incentives

The District assembly shall: facilitate negotiation on land acquisition, the subsequent preparation of site plans and indentures on such lands for investors
Offer Investors zero percent tax from the District Assembly for a period not less than five(5) years.
Facilitate the provision of basic infrastructure such as access road, water and electricity to project sites
Provide to the Investor, free of charge any relevant information on such minerals.
