Location
The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem district is bordered on the north by the Twifo-Hemang-Lower Denkyira District, on the south by the Atlantic ocean, on the east by the Cape Coast Municipality and on the west by the Mpohor West District of the Western Region

Topography
The area is a plain with isolated hills (e.g. Around Kissi) and underlined by Birrimian rocks.
Many years of intensive erosion have reduced the land to uniformly low heights of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level.
Along the coast are a series of lagoons and marshy areas into which a number of the rivers and streams draining the area flow.
Climate
The District lies partly in the dry equatorial zone and parltly in the west semi-equatorial zone.
Temperature
Both zones experience relatively simalr temperature conditions thrughout the year.
Mean annual temperature of about 29oc in warmest months (March - July and 24oc in the coolest months (August-February)
Rainfall: The differnces between the two climatic zones result basicaly from rainfall
Annual raifall ranges from 100cm along the coast to about 150cm or more in the interior.
Both areas have double maxima rainfall:
Major season - May -July
Minor season - September to October
Relative Humidity: Relative humidity is between 60-90% during the Harmattain period of November to January.

According to 2000 census report 65% of the labour force are economically active male population
About 48% of the toatal population in the disttrict are engaged in Agriculture.
50% of the female populatin aged 15 years and above enumerated in 2000 were engaged in agriculture and related activities
About 35% of the economically active females are engaged n trading.
Main economic activities
Main economic activities are fishing, farming and related activiteis like agro-processing, salt mining and quarrying.
Agriculture
Within the coastal savannah, sugar cane cultivation is very important
Salt Extraction
Salt extraction is another primary occupation along the coast notably Elmina, Brenu Akyinim, bantama and Ankwanda.
Trading
Trading is an important econo9mic activitiy empowlying about 35% of the economically active females.
Fishing
Elmina has the second largest fishing port in the country with about 294 canoes and 60 in-shore vessels.
The district contributes about 15% of the country's total fish utput.
Fish caught include herrings, mackerel, tuna, lobsters, shrimps,barracuda etc.
An annual of 130, 000 tonnes of fish is landed anynyaly in the Elmina area.

Road Network
The District has 31km of asphalt roads and 1556.7km of feeder roads.
The main road is the Accra - Cape Coast -Takoradi road, part of the Trans-West African Highway.
It is linked by a number of second and third class roads to the settlements in the district.
Under the decentralization policy of the Government, the District Assembly in collaboration with the Department of feeder Roads have opened access roads to settlements hitherto inaccessible. Many roads which wre abandoned have also been rehabilitated to serve the transportation needs of the people
Tourism Attractions
The district proudly boasts of two historical attractions, the Elmina Castle and Fort St. Jago that have been designated as World Heritage Monuments by the World Heritage Foundation under UNESCO.
The district ranks in importance in terms of seasonal, colourful and glamorous festivals that att4ract people from all over Ghana and beyond.
The Dutch cemetery, built in the nineteenth century contains the graves of former governors of the Castle as well as prominent local citizens.

The number of international tourist arrivals to the district was 126,000 in 2000.
The fugure has been rising steadily in subsequent years.
