Biography of the Central Regional Minister

Nana Ato Arthur had his Ordinary Level (O’ level) certificate in July 1981 at Fijai Secondary School, Sekondi, and proceeded to the prestigious St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast the same year. He obtained his ‘A’ level certificate in May 1983.
In 1984, he had a Ghana Government Scholarship to China where he offered Agricultural Engineering after a year’s Chinese Language Course in the Beijing Languages Institute.
In 1989, he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in engineering from the South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou. Whilst in China, Nana Ato Arthur was elected the President of the General Union of African Students in China (GUASC) Guangzhou Branch for two consecutive years, 1986-88.
Nana Ato Arthur returned home in 1990 and joined the Irrigation Development Authority, where he had his National Service and was later absorbed as an Assistant Engineer.
He rose through the ranks to the position of Senior Engineer in the Irrigation Development Authority.
In 1995, Nana Ato Arthur obtained a KAAD Scholarship to Germany for a Post Graduate Diploma Degree in Regional Development Planning and Management at the University of Dortmund.
He then proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah, University of Science and Technology, Kumasi for an M.Sc degree in Development Planning and Management, where he graduated in 1997. He practiced as a Management Consultant with the State Enterprises Commission, Accra, for 3 years.
In 2001, H.E. John Agyekum Kufour appointed Nana Ato Arthur and subsequently endorsed as the District Chief Executive of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Assembly. He was elected 1st Vice President of National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) in 2003.
He served the KEEA Assembly for 4 years and in 2005, upon NPP retaining power, was elevated to the position of Deputy Central Regional Minister. He served for a year and became the substantive Minister in 2006.
